Beginning June 1, 2026, Night Owl officially discontinued support for the Night Owl Pro, Night Owl Lite, and Night Owl HD apps, along with the products that rely on these applications. This decision is part of our commitment to maintaining system security and reliability. We understand that this change may impact your experience, and we want to provide you with the necessary information to navigate this transition smoothly.

Note: We still support Night Owl Protect (our currently sold product generation), Night Owl Connect and Night Owl X/XHD apps and products.


Why This Change is Necessary


As technology evolves, it is crucial for our systems to remain compatible with current technology and security standards. By phasing out support for older apps, we can focus on providing you with enhanced security features and improved functionality in our newer systems. This change will help protect your data and ensure a more reliable user experience.

If you are currently using any of the Night Owl Pro, Night Owl Lite, or Night Owl HD apps, we encourage you to start planning for this transition. After June 1, 2026, you will no longer receive updates, technical support, or security patches for these applications.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding discontinued support of our older apps and product generations


Why is Support for my Night Owl App and Product being Discontinued?


As technology evolves, older products and mobile apps eventually reach a point where they can no longer be supported reliably. To maintain security, stability, and performance across our products and platforms, we are discontinuing support for the very oldest generation of Products.


This allows us to focus on supporting and improving our current Night Owl Protect Generation of Products and the Night Owl Protect App.

 
Is my system broken?


No. Your hardware system continues to function as designed. 


Depending on your specific model, certain mobile app features may no longer be supported after the sunset date. However, many systems can still operate locally or through existing network configurations. 


If you’re unsure if and how your specific system is impacted, our Technical Support team is happy to help. 

 
What exactly is ending?


Live Support for product models listed above and live support for the mobile app associated with any system listed above as of June 1, 2026. 


Live Support includes support from one of our Technical Support agents through our Phone, Email or Chat support channels.

This may include but no limited to:

  • Troubleshooting an Issue
  • Help with logging in to the App or Recorder
  • Resetting your account password
  • Setup or Configuration
  • Network/Internet Connectivity related issues


Discontinued App Support may eventually impact overall app functionality as well as the following: 

  • App availability in the Apple or Google app stores 
  • Push notifications sent to your mobile device
  • Account-based services 


Your recorder and cameras may continue to function locally without the use of the app for remote viewing and control. 

 
Can I keep using the app after the sunset date?


After the sunset date of May 31, 2026: 


  • The apps will be removed from the Apple App and Google Play stores in the near future
  • Certain features and services in the app may stop functioning 


If the app is already installed, limited functionality may continue for some time, but we cannot guarantee long-term compatibility with future OS updates. 

 
Why wasn’t I notified sooner?


We  communicated this update as early as possible by posting announcements on our main website and on our Support site.


Because some of our older apps do not have account registration systems, we are using multiple communication channels including website updates, app store notices, and social posts to ensure the most visibility possible. 

 
Do I have to upgrade?


Upgrading to a newer device that uses our most current app is not mandatory at this point. 


However, to have full mobile functionality,  a device and app that is updated regularly, and maintain compatibility with current technology and security standards, transitioning to our current Night Owl Protect platform and generation of products is highly recommended. 


We are happy to provide loyalty upgrade options to make this transition easier. 

 
What happens if I don’t upgrade?


If you choose not to upgrade: 


  • Your hardware may continue operating locally for a period of time
  • Certain mobile features may no longer function 
  • We will not be able to provide app-based technical support or support for your system
 
Will my cameras and recorder still work?


In most cases, yes. 


Even without the use of the Mobile App, your system may still function on its own.  You may lose access to some features that you only had access to in the app, but if you connect your recorder to a monitor or TV, you can still view live video and recordings.

Will I lose my recorded footage?


No. Recorded footage stored on your DVR or NVR remains on your device.

 
Is this happening because of a security issue?


No. 


Discontinuing support for our oldest product generations and sunsetting the apps associated with those products is part of a standard product lifecycle process. As operating systems evolve and infrastructure requirements change, older apps may no longer meet current platform standards.   

 
Why can’t you just keep supporting the old app?


Maintaining outdated mobile applications limits our ability to: 


  • Implement modern security protocols 
  • Ensure compatibility with new mobile operating systems 
  • Deliver performance improvements 


Focusing on our current platform allows us to provide a better long-term experience for customers. 

 
What is Night Owl Protect?


Night Owl Protect is our current mobile platform designed to support newer systems with: 


  • Account management 
  • Improved notification delivery 
  • Ongoing feature updates 
  • Enhanced long-term support 
 
Will there be a discount for upgrading?


We recognize the loyalty of long-time Night Owl customers.
