A passive infrared sensor (PIR sensor) is an electronic sensor that measures infrared (IR) light radiating from objects in its field of view. We use it on our cameras for presence detection. You need to know PIR sensor have approximately 40ft maximum range, anybody out of that ratio won’t be detected.

Troubleshooting
- You should check first if your camera is connected to your DVR/WNVR. Please check on your DVR/WNVR you can watch live video from your camera. If you can’t, you’re having video issues. Go to this link for Analog Cameras: Video Loss Issues
- If you are trying to install an extra camera (not the included with the original equipment) you need to check you Night Owl Camera Compatibility, where you can check if your camera is totally compatible with your DVR/WNVR.
- If you have video but it still not recording, you should check the PIR configuration on your DVR. To do that, you need to follow the next steps:
- For AHD/HDA Series:
- Go to DVR/WNVR Main Menu (You may need to log in after this step).
- General tab will appear by default, on this tab select Alarms (Video Alarm) sub-tab.
- Enable PIR detection for each channel (camera), or just on the camera you are having the issue. Save your changes.
- For XHD Series:
- Go to DVR Main Menu (You may need to log in after this step).
- Select Camera tab and once there, select Motion sub-tab.
- Check PIR check match for each channel (camera), or just on the camera you are having the issue. Save your changes.
- For AHD/HDA Series:
